Wren Case, age 88, of Cove, died January 19, 2006 at his home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in La Grande. Committal and interment will follow at the Island City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Mr. Case was born on December 12, 1917, the son of William Jasper and Ella (VanBlokland) Case in Alicel, Oregon. He graduated from La Grande High School in 1936 and farmed with his brothers for over 30 years. On May 29, 1940 he married Lovene Morris in Lower Cove. She preceded him in death on February 27, 2005.
Mr. Case was very active in his community serving on the Alicel School and election board and the Salvation Army board. He was a diamond pioneer, was part of the Oregon Wheat Commission and Wheat League for 14 years and was the Pacific NW Grain Chairman. He was a member of the South Forty and served as chairman, served on the Soil Conservation Board, the Union County Grain Growers board and the Grande Ronde Model Water Shed. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Toastmaster and the Rusty Wheels Car Club. He was a very active member of the First Christian Church and was a part of the American Sunday School Union. He enjoyed the mountains, old cars, motorcycles, snowmobiling and ice skating. He played the piano and organ by ear and loved his family and farming.
Survivors include his children, Jerry Case of Cove, Stan Case of Cove and La Della and Dennis Wood of Cove; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, John, Elmer, Hugh and Homer Case; sister, Vera Plank and grandson, Micha Wood.
