Winifred Braden, 87, of Sun City, Ariz., and formerly of La Grande died March 19. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sun City First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Braden was born April 15, 1917, to Robert M. and Helen Fischer Scott in La Junta, Colo. She graduated from La Grande High School and from Eastern Oregon Normal School. She taught at Red Pepper School and boarded with the family of Albert and Lucille Hamann. She taught for more than 30 years before retiring.
She married Don DeMont Braden and lived in Pendleton before moving to Arizona in 1962. She was a member of the Pendleton Association of Teachers, serving as president; the NEA; the Women's Association of the Presbyterian church; Eastern Star, where she was past matron; Delta Kappa Gamma; PEO and Daughters of the Nile.
Survivors include children and their spouses, Donna and Bill Moffett of Sun City, Gary and Margaret Braden of Yakima, Wash., Michael and Kathleen Braden of Phoenix, Ariz., and Robert Braden of Idyllwild, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Evelyn Fuller of Cove, and Shirley Davis of Glenrock, Wyo. Her husband died earlier.
