William G. Washkoska

September 5, 1926 — September 29, 2006

William "Bill" Washkoska, 80, of Spokane died Sept. 29. Following a funeral Saturday, October 7 in Spokane, there will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Monday at Grandview Cemetery in La Grande with Pastor Mark Schlessman officiating.

Mr. Washkoska was born Sept. 5, 1926, to George and Josephine Washkoska in Oshkosh, Wis. He was in the Navy for eight years, and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

In 1949 he graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and worked as a safety engineer in the insurance industry. He moved to Boise, where he met his wife, Barbara Counsell, formerly of Ladd Canyon. They were married Feb. 27, 1954, in Boise, and moved to Spokane in 1960. One of his life's greatest joys was spending time with his twin granddaughers.

Survivors include his wife of Spokane; children, Holly Burgess of Atlanta, and Todd Washkoska of Seattle; and two grandchildren.
