William Howes Phinney

May 11, 1914 — October 3, 2003

William Howes "Tud" Phinney, age 89, of Cove, died Friday, October 3, 2003 at a local care facility. Viewing will be held on Monday, October 6, 2003 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Cove with Pastor Marcus Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow at the Cove Cemetery.

Mr. Phinney was born on May 11, 1914, the son of William Columbus and Mabelle Louise (Gammons) Phinney in Caldwell, Idaho. After attending schools in Idaho he married Gladys V. Frisby. After raising three children the marriage ended in 1982. He moved to Cove from San Diego, California in 1960. Mr. Phinney was a rancher and raised swine and cattle. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and was an avid fisherman and loved to dance. He enjoyed bowling and watching Cove play football.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Charles and Jo Phinney of Cove, Louise and Gene Evans of Cove and Bill and Yeanie Phinney of Green Valley, Arizona; grandchildren, Mark Charles Phinney of Virginia, Malcolm Curtis Phinney of Enterprise, Valerie Jo Phinney of Seattle, Geni Louise Mertsching of Clarkston, Washington, Susanne April Van de Ligt of Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada, Cynthia Lee Johnson of Cove, William Charles Phinney of Pendleton, Lance Kelly Phinney of Selah, Washington, Edward Eugene Phinney of Wenatchee, Washington and Mahle Kathleen Phinney of Vista, California; sister, Mabelle Sanderson of Cove; companion, Jonnie Corbett of Cove; and other relatives and friends. His parents, two brothers, one sister and three granddaughters preceded him in death.
