William M. Marcum

April 16, 1941 — September 26, 2006

William Millord "Squeek" Marcum, age 65, of Sand Hollow, Idaho and formerly of La Grande, died Tuesday at the VA Hospital in Boise, Idaho. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Private interment will be at the Hillcrest East Cemetery.

Mr. Marcum was born April 16, 1941, the son of William H. and Evelyn (Sanderson) Marcum in Weiser, Idaho. He was educated in La Grande and in his later years raised by his mother and step-father, Howard Ramsey. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Alaska working with heavy equipment and tanks. After his honorable discharge he worked for the Los Angeles Police Department for seven years as a motor cycle patrolman. He then worked as a pilot for various commercial and cargo airlines for twenty years. For the past ten years he worked as a long haul driver for various companies, most recently England and Jim Palmer. He enjoyed reading and recreation travel on his motorcycle. He held his family close to his heart but he really loved being on the road or in the air.

Survivors include his children, Michael Marcum of Portland and Maureen and Mark McLeod of Cooksville, Illinois; grandchildren, Christian, Aidan and Stella Marcum all of Portland; Danielle, Connor, Lauren and Rachel McLeod, all of Cooksville, Illinois; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Virginia Marcum of Portland; aunt, Wanda Pointer of Island City; uncle, Billy Sanderson of Elgin; numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Dean McLeod, aunt, Dorothy Craig and uncles, Donald and Kenneth Sanderson.
