William Robert Jones

William Robert Jones, age 89, of Prineville and formerly of Cove and La Grande, died December 30, 2004 at home. The funeral will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Prineville Christian Church, 1685 S.E. Lynn Blvd. A graveside service will begin at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Grandview Cemetery in La Grande.

Mr. Jones was born to William and Ada Rockwell Jones on April 28, 1915 in Bader, Illinois. On May 29, 1938 he married Ruth Sundberg in Astoria, Illinois. He graduated from Central Washington School of the Bible and served as the pastor of the Wasco Church of Christ from 1958 until 1969, when the family moved to the La Grande and Cove area where they farmed for 30 years. He attended the Elgin Christian Church. In 1999 he moved to Prineville. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, raising crops, preaching and reading his bible.

Survivors include children and their spouses, Barbara and Ridgley Ireland of Arcadia, California, Robert and Karen Jones of Prineville and Phillip and Judi Jones of Canyonville; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and a sister, Shirley Rittenhouse of Rushville, Illinois. His wife and a son, Thomas, died earlier.

Memorials may be made to the Handicapped Access Fund at the Prineville Christian Church.
