William "Bill" Oscar Dodds, age 79, of La Grande died December 28, 2004 at a local care center. Viewing will be from 4-7pm Thursday at Loveland Funderal Chapel. A celebration of life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, 902 Fourth Street. A graveside service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Grandview Cemetery.
Mr. Dodds was born on November 27, 1925 to Clarence W. and Hazel I. Dutcher Dodds in Bushnell, Nebraska. The family moved to La Grande in 1936 and on May 14, 1964 he married Marietta L. Keller in La Grande. He worked for Boise Cascade and retired as a dry-kiln operator. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Odd Fellows' Lodge, the Eagles and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, reading Western novels and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of La Grande; a daughter, Elizabeth Amell of Medford; step-children, Paul Rudd of La Grande, Michael Rudd of Denver, Susan Ping of Helena, Montana, Leora Garcia of Ripon, California and NOrman Burgess of Myrtle Creek; six grandchildren; on great-grandchild; a brother, Benjamin Dodds of Mt. Vernon and two sisters, Beth Jones of Burley, Idaho and Berdine Saunders of The Dalles. Two sons, Lawrence and William Dodds and a brother, Robert, all died earlier. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
