William W. "Bill" Curtiss,Sr., age 71, of La Grande, died January 2, 2004 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. Private family services were held.
Mr. Curtiss was born on Ocotber 15, 1932, in Tacoma, Washington, the son of Theodore and Edna Walker Curtiss. He was raised and educated in Washington. After high school he attended two years of college at Columbia Basin College. He married Anna L. Rom on October 17, 1955, in Downey, California. Mr. Curtiss moved to La Grande from the Tri-Cities about seven years ago.
Mr. Curtiss worked in construction, building homes. He had lived in Rockaway Beach, where he was active in the Lions Club and had helped transport eyes for the Eye Bank from Rockaway to Portland. While in the Tri-Cities he had helped found the Tri-City Road Raiders and the Hill and Gully Motorcycle clubs. He greatly enjoyed fishing, riding Harleys, family functions, woodcarving,collecting knives and John Wayne Movies.
He is survived by his wife; four children, Mary Dee Weber of Royal, Arkansas, Debra Kelsay of La Grande, William Curtiss, Jr. of La Grande and Annette Curtiss of Spokane; a sister, Janice McMurtrey of Kennewick, Washington; thirteen grandchildren; one step-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, a daughter, Linda Bacon and two step=brothers died earlier.
