Willetta Senter

January 30, 1922 — July 11, 2002

Willetta Vaughn Senter, age 80, of Pendleton, and formerly of La Grande and Baker City, died Thursday, July 11, 2002 in Pendleton.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Island City Cemetery with Harold McKay officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley in La Grande.


Mrs. Senter was born on January 30, 1922, the daughter of William Gibson and Louann (Foister) Wyatt in Boring, Kentucky. She was educated in Laurel County, Kentucky. During World War II she worked as a seamstress and as a Tobacco Sorter in the Tobacco Barns. In October of 1946 she married Robert L. Vaughn, Sr. in Kentucky. In 1960 they moved to the Burnt River Valley at Durkee. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1962.


On July 2, 1965 she married John T. Senter, Jr. in Weiser, Idaho. They lived in La Grande until moving to Baker in 1967. They returned to La Grande in 1989. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1994. In 1995 she moved to Boardman and in 1998 she moved to Pendleton.


Mrs. Senter was an extremely talented seamstress and did beautiful crocheting and hand quilting. She was a devoted wife and mother and her family and friends were very important to her. She loved flowers, gardening, cooking and dogs.


Survivors include her children, Chuck & Joyce Ross of La Grande, Robert & Gayle Vaughn of Pendleton, Barbara & Dan Bell of La Grande, Mary Anderson of Houston, Texas and Helen & Wayne Montgomery of Lake of the Ozark, Missouri; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Broughton of London, Kentucky and Ed Wyatt of Homus, Florida; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Robbie, sister Bea Hooker, and brothers, Virgil, Cecil, Jeff and Samuel Hooker.
