Wilbur Earl "Butch/Will" Winterton passed away peacefully on June 11, 2009 with family at his side.
Mr. Winterton was born on February 6, 1943 to Jesse Richard Winterton and Florence "Alta" Davis. He attended school at Starkey Logging Camp in La Grande, Oregon and college at Shoreline Community College in Seattle, WA.
He served in the U.S. Navy, on the USS Ranger during the Cuban Crisis. He met and married Eva Fay Hartley in 1964 in La Grande, at his sister's home. They have 3 children, Lynn Carol Winterton of Everett, Washington, Annette June (Eddie) Blackford of Marysville, Washington and Richard Dale and wife, Cynthia, Winterton of Fort Belvoir, Virginia
Survivors include wife, Fay, their 3 grown children: Lynn, Annette, and Richard (Rick); Seven grandchildren: Lanette, John Christopher, Joseph, Joshua, Jillann, Nicole, and Anieva, and two great-grandchildren; Kayonna and De Andre; brothers, Raymond and wife, Kathy, Winterton of Wasilla, AK, Ernest and Sandy Winterton of Colton OR, and sister, Marty "Sis" Sears of St. Johns, Oregon, father-in-law, Alfred Hartley, sister-in-laws, Carolyn K. Partridge of Elgin, and Aloha June (Les) Travis, of Meridian, Idaho and brother-in- law Gene (Patty) Hartley and numerous and extended family and friends.
Butch worked for and retired from Boeing after 25 years where he enjoyed all aspects of the Aerospace Industry, and he also worked for Boise Cascade off and on. He loved spending time with family, and the outdoors fishing and hunting. He was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sibling, Virgil E. Winterton.
Services will be held on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cove Cemetery. A gathering will follow at the Smokehouse Restaurant in La Grande.
