January 16, 1936 — August 3, 2019

Wilba (Sue) Ettamarie Gerber, age 83 of Elgin, passed away surrounded by her loving family on August 3, 2019 at Providence Hospital in Milwaukie, Oregon. In her later years she lived in Milwaukie, with her youngest daughter Kathrine and family.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Elgin Cemetery. A reception to follow at The Elgin Stampede Hall.

Sue was born on January 16, 1936, to Charlie Martin and Gladys Elizabeth (Lee) Wolfe in Grand Junction, Colorado.  On March 25, 1955 she married Louis (Emery) Gerber, Sr. in Dayton, Washington. They made their home in Elgin.

Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, Louis and Robin Gerber of La Grande; daughter, Colleen Kai and her sweetheart Jason Hayes of Troutdale and daughter & son-in-law, Kathrine and Bruce Litchfield of Milwaukie; her sister, Trudy Duffy of Elgin; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emery and her two brothers Gordan Lee and Bill Wolfe.

She attended The Elgin Nazarene Church and The Milwaukie Covenant Church.  She enjoyed baking cakes, and for years made many of the wedding cakes near and around Elgin. She loved crocheting baby blankets for family and friends, knitting dishcloths that she would hand out at gatherings, cooking, gardening, reading (especially a good mystery), fishing, and canning. She was especially proud of her award winning blue-ribbon dill pickles, and the recipe that she handed down to her daughters. Sue held several titles throughout the years. She was a homemaker, a seamstress, cake decorator, and was employed at Boise Cascade for 10 years. But her greatest title was Mother, then Grandmother. Sue was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
