Wesley H. Swope

Wesley H. Swope, 85, of La Grande, died Oct. 11 at his home in La Grande.

Wesley was born July 17, 1923, to Raymond Herbert Swope and Amelia Pauline Overbaugh in Follett, Texas. He hand one sister, Leona Esther; and two brothers, William Eugene and Charles Raymond. He was raised and educated in Lubbock, Texas, and joined the Air Force and became a pilot. He was discharged as a captain and instructor.

In his younger years, he worked for Sears in Twin Falls, then went to work for the ‘ID" Idaho store. He met and married Rhea Josephine "Jo" Williams on Aug. 25, 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Wesley enjoyed spending time with family. He enjoyed his younger years as a pilot and instructor. He liked watching the local baseball AAA farm league and spending time in the mountains.

He is survived by three children, Steven M. (Bronwyn) Swope of Salt Lake City, Michael J. (Mary Jane) Swope of Boise; and Shelly McKinnis of Walla Walla; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
