Wesley Dale Fallow

May 25, 1925 — June 17, 2008

Wesley Dale Fallow, 83, of Grants Pass and formerly of La Grande, died June 17 at Three Rivers Hospital.

At his request, there will be no services.

Dale was born May 25, 1925, in La Grande. He attended La Grande High School, graduating with the class of 1943. He also graduated from Eastern Oregon State College, earning a master's degree in education.

Dale served two years in the U.S. Navy. He married Katherine June 20, 1948, in La Grande. From 1950 to 1982, he worked for the Josephine County School District as a teacher, principal and administrator. He received national recognition for his innovative individual instruction and team staff teaching approach.

When he began teaching in 1950, Dale lived in Murphy and then moved to the Merlin area where he taught at Merlin Elementary School in 1953. He went to work at Manzanita Elementary School when it opened in 1964. Later he served as district director of special education, retiring in 1987.

Dale was co-founder of Southern Oregon Federal Credit Union with his account No. 1 recognized with a plaque near the front door of the building.

He enjoyed Oregon history, geology, gardening, deer and elk hunting, fishing, coin collecting, cooking and reading. He was a past member of the Elks Lodge and Masons.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine; daughters, Dalene of Redding, Calif., and Rebecca of Reno, Nev.; sons, Dennis of Sammamish, Wash., Gary of Corvallis, Scott of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Jeffrey of Truckee, Calif.; sister, Marvel West of Chehalis, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert, in 2004.
