Wendell Judson, 92 of Douglas Lake, peacefully entered heaven on January 24th surrounded by his family.
Wendell was born May 7, 1916 near Levering. He was the eldest son of Nellie (Pike) and William Judson and married Elma Elder in 1938.
Wendell taught school in Hebron and Munro Township for five years and worked as a foreman at General Motors in Pontiac for six years during WWII making guns for the Navy. Active in many organizations, he served on the Levering and Pellston School Boards; was a Past Master and life member of the Masonic Lodge #440 in Pellston; Past President of the Douglas Lake Association; Supervisor of Munro Township and Past President of the Pellston Lions Club. Wendell owned and operated Judson Heating Service for 25 years, retiring in 1975. An avid fisherman, Wendell's pride and joy for 40 years was his pike marsh on Douglas Lake, now part of the Judson Nature Preserve. Developing one of Michigan's first natural fish spawning areas on family property was a labor of love for Wendell.
One of Wendell's greatest passions was his love of flight. After receiving his pilot's license in 1960, Wendell made many cross-country trips and fulfilled a lifetime dream of flying to Alaska in the 1970's.
Wendell is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elma, their four children, Donald (Jolene) Judson of Pellston; Gary (Diane) Judson of Forest Lake; Linda (Ron) Searles of Levering and Wendy (Bobby) Knox of Traverse City. A daughter, Judy preceded him in death as well as his parents and brothers. Wendell has 11 grandchildren and many many great-grandchildren.
