Warren W. Jederberg

August 26, 1921 — September 14, 2006

Warren William Jederberg, 85, of La Grande died Thursday at Grande Ronde Hospital after a short illness.

He will be buried next to his wife at Hillcrest Cemetery following funeral services at the Stake Center, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 11 a.m. Monday, .

He was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Selby, South Dakota,

Mr. Jederberg came to La Grande in 1943 as an aviation cadet, and met his wife during his shifts at the switchboard in the Sacajawea Hotel, and her work at West Coast Telephone Co. He served in the Army during World War II, spending most of his time in the European theatre.

He was generally known as an excellent mechanic, and worked for Blue Mountain Lanes where he bowled and maintained the lanes and equipment for many years. His last occupation was as Stake Custodian for the LDS in La Grande. He and his wife, Mary Ellen "Kelly," served as temple workers in the Boise Temple for two years. He was active in the church and served in many other callings.

Mr. Jederberg enjoyed watching basketball and golf, and was an airplane enthusiast all of his life. He was an avid swimmer, and bore the nickname "Jitterbug" for his prowess on the dance floor during and after the war years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years on Aug. 1 of this year and his older brother, Arthur.

He is survived by his six children and their spouses, 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
