Walter Alvin Streich

September 30, 1922 — May 6, 2005

Walter Alvin Streich, age 82, died Friday, May 6, 2005 at his home in Elgin, Oregon. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Elgin Community Center in Elgin, Oregon. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Walter Alvin Streich was born on September 30, 1922, the son of Andrew and Anna (Nydegger) Streich in Portland, Oregon. Walter was raised on a dairy farm near Longview and Kelso, Washington. Mr. Streich enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country in the Pacific during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, Walter met and married Nova Little on April 26, 1947 in Kelso, Washington. Walter worked as a logger in various areas of the Northwest before purchasing a laundry business in Portland which he and Nova operated from 1958 until 1962. He later purchased Mount Hood Motors and operated it until 1981 when he moved to the Elgin area. He enjoyed Swiss music, schwingfests, socializing with family and friends, hard work and helping others. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Those who knew Walt will always remember him for his willingness to share his opinions, and his love for a good time.

Survivors include his children and their spouses; Karen and Dick Wood of Elgin, Oregon, Arlin Streich of La Grande, Oregon and Andy and Terry Streich of White Salmon, Washington; grandchildren, Allen Bemis, Samantha Moore and Andrea Streich; great grandchildren; Brandon Moore, Lily Ann Moore, Nova Marie Moore and Haylie Robin Streich; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. His parents, wife and two brothers, Warner and Alfred Streich all preceded him in death.
