Walter Scott Lovely, age 92 of La Grande, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at his home. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. at the Grandview cemetery with Sally Wiens officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Walter Scott Lovely was born on February 19, 1913, the son of Edwin and Emma Jane (DeFries) Lovely in La Grande, Oregon. Walter spent most of his life in the Grande Ronde Valley except for a short time when he enlisted it the United States Army where he served his country during World War II. After his honorable discharge Walter returned the La Grande. In 1937 he married Gertrude Ella Peterman in Walla Walla, Washington and together the couple remained in La Grande where he worked in lumber yards for most of his career. Walter's family operated an ice house during his early years along the same river that took his home in the flood of 1965. Mr. Lovely was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood, spending time with his family and was a favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his daughter and her spouse, Carol and Dale Mattson of Island City; grandchildren and their spouses, Cheri and David Keffer, Cindy and Ronnie Bonney, Cristie and Mike Hedden and Stacey and Loey Mattson; eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. His Parents, brothers, Tom Lovely, Harlan Lovely, Herb Lovely, Fred Lovely, Frank Lovely and a sister Bertha Standley.
