Walter Cameron Abel

November 23, 1952 — November 5, 2002

Walter Cameron Abel, age 49, of Union, went to join His Father in Heaven on Monday, November 5, 2002 at a La Grande care facility following a long battle with cancer.


A celebration of life will be held on Monday, November 11, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Cove. Private interment will be held later.
Walt was born on November 23, 1952, the son of James John and Bonnie Jean (Doyle) Abel in Aberdeen, Washington. He proudly served in both the Army and the Navy during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged.


Walt started the Operation Warm Hands program which provided wood for the elderly. He loved fishing and the mountains. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was loved by all who met him. He will be missed.


Survivors include his wife, Cheryl of Union; sons, Brandon and Aaron of Roseburg, Oregon; son and daughter, Cameron and Cherish Abel of Nebraska; daughter and granddaughter, Belinda and Ashleigh of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister, Sharon of Pendleton; brothers, Larry, Rick and Jim; and other relatives and friends.


In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Cove Calvary Baptist Church in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon 97850.
