Vivian Jeannette Foye

August 21, 1912 — October 3, 2005

Vivian Jeannette Foye, 93, of La Grande and formerly of Medical Springs died October 3 at a local care center. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 am October 15 at 50551 Big Creek Road in Medical Springs.

Mrs. Foye was born August 21, 1912 to Ben H. and Mildred Schoenauer Jory in Union, a descendant of pioneers of 1847. She attended schools in Mission, Umatilla and Hermiston and graduated from Union High School in 1931. On August 9, 1935 she married Nesden Wright Foye and except for a short time in Oakland, California during the depression, spent the rest of her life in Medical Springs until she moved to a care center three years ago. The couple ran the Ox Bow Guest Ranch in the 1940's and cooked for the road crew when the Medical Springs highway was being paved. In the 1950s they had a store, and she served as postmaster for 28 years. She retired in 1978.

She was a member of the Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers and the National Auxiliary of Postmasters. She enjoyed gardening, photography, the mountains, wildlife, raising African violets and visiting with her neighbors.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Janice and Jerry Baxter of Medical Springs; a daughter-in-law, Judy Foye of Yakima; 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Her husband, a son, Ned Jr., a brother, Vernon "Bud" Jory and two sisters, Maxine and Louise, all died earlier.
