Virginia Marie Riomondo

Virginia Marie Riomondo, 88, of La Grande, died June 12 in

La Grande. A memorial to celebrate Virginia's life will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at New Song Community Church. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Pastor Mitch Coston will officiate.

Virginia was born Dec. 9, 1920, to Charles Ray and Vivian Ruth (Mayfield) Wright in Union. She grew up on the Wright Family ranch in High Valley with five siblings. Virginia attended school in Union and graduated from Union High School in 1940.

After graduating she started working on a farm in Summerville where she met Lindsey Park McDaniel and married him June 1, 1942. To this union, she had two sons, Lindsey Ray and Thompson Eric. Lindsey died in 1948.

After he died, she moved to Walla Walla to attend Cosmetology College. There she met and married Anthony (Tony) M. Riomondo Aug. 16, 1951. To this union she was blessed with three more children, Lynne Marie, Toni Ruth and Ralph Allen. She lived in Walla Walla until his death in 1965. Virginia moved her children back to Union to be closer to her family.

Virginia was a dedicated 4-H and Girl Scout leader and was honored by the Union FFA Chapter for her years of support. Virginia worked at Grande Ronde Hospital for several years as a dietician helper, where people enjoyed her bright smile and quick wit until her retirement.

She loved cooking, sewing, gardening, camping and going hunting every fall with family in the annual hunting party.

She enjoyed playing cards and especially pinochle with anyone who would play with her. She loved vacationing, especially to the Oregon Coast and Wallowa Lake. She was a long-time member of New Song Community Church where she was known for her loving hugs and warm smile. She was a grandma to all.

She is survived by children Ray and his wife, Suzanne, of Union, Lynne Marie of Nampa, Idaho, Toni Ruth of La Grande whom she lived with until her death, Ralph and his wife, Debbie, of Union; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Jerry of La Grande, and Shirley and Pearl of Union; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; son, Tom in 1991; parents; sister, Marion at the age of 8; and a brother, Chuck, in 1989.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Ministries of New Song Community Church.
