Virginia Lorraine Piper

July 1, 1918 — October 2, 2005

Virginia Lorraine Piper, died October 2, 2005 at her home in Salem. She was 87. A private memorial service was held in Salem.

Mrs. Piper dedicated her life to caring for and supporting her family. She had a strong faith in God and was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in La Grande and later in Salem.

Lorraine Cusick was born July 1, 1918 in Portland and grew up in the La Grande area with her parent, Roy and Ethel Cusick, and her two brothers and a sister. She was stationed in San Francisco with the Navy during World War II, returning to the family home in La Grande after her discharge in 1946.

Lorraine and Jack Curtis Piper were married in Pendleton on December 28, 1946. He was an elementary school principal for the La Grande School District until his death October 23, 1970. Lorraine and Jack provided a loving home in La Grande for their three children, Ginger, John and Carol. Lorraine worked for Eastern Oregon University as a secretary for 22 years, retiring in 1985 and moving to Salem to be closer to her children.

Lorraine is survived by her brother, Dick Cusick of Joshua, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Ginger and Bob Mahon of Philomath and Carol and Glenn Misner of Portland; son and daughter-in-law, John and Karen Piper of Salem; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. A brother, Ted Cusick and a sister, Joyce Huffman, died earlier. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Union Gospel Misson in Salem.
