Virgil Lee Davis, 92, of Enterprise, died Feb. 6 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. A service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Enterprise Christian Church. Burial will follow at Enterprise Cemetery.
Virgil was born June 7, 1917, to J.C. and Lottie Kemp Davis in Joseph. He grew up around Wallowa and Baker City. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He married Hazel Thompson in 1939. They divorced in 1948. They had three sons, Virgil Jr., Bobby Dean and John Charles. He married Wilda Pullen in 1950.
Virgil hauled logs for the family business for 34 years. When the family sold the business he went to work for Dougherty Logging running a grader. He retired at the age of 73. He loved to fish.
He is survived by his wife, Wilda, of Enterprise; son, John Charles of Seward, Alaska; step-daughter, Darlene Hansen of Pilot Rock; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bernidine Hawley of Wallowa and Shirley Kirby of Enterprise. He was preceded in death by parents; brother, Homer; sisters, Elsie and Delsie Martin; two sons, Virgil Jr. and Bobby Dean; and one great-grandson, Robert Wayne.
