Vincent E. Gibson

Vincent E. Gibson, age 87, of La Grande, died Friday, March 24, 2006 at his home. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Gibson was born on September 28, 1918, the son of Clarence Eugene "Smiley" and Nora (Duckett) Gibson in La Grande. During World War II he served with the United States Army Air Corp as a Staff Sergeant with the Military Police. On January 22, 1944 he married Darlene Millering in La Grande. He worked as a stationary engineer for Eastern Oregon University, retiring in 1982. His wife preceded him in death on August 9, 1984. He was a lifetime lover of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Survivors include his sons, Phillip Gibson of Pendleton, Rickey Gibson of Pendleton and Michael Gibson of La Grande; sisters, Delores Allen of La Grande and Aretha Steinbeck; and other relatives and friends. Brothers, William Gibson and Clarence Gibson Jr. and sister, Inez Kiddle, preceded him in death.
