Vida Marie Fields

April 5, 1910 — December 25, 2005

Vida "Vi" Marie Fields, age 95 of Union, died Sunday, December 25, 2005 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cove Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cove. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Vi Fields was born on April 5, 1910, the daughter of John and Ora (Scott) Freeman in Crystal Valley, Michigan. Vi was one of eleven children and on July 9, 1927 she married Millard John Buffum in Pentwater, Michigan. Together the couple raised six children. Millard later preceded her in death on July 6, 1963. On April 23, 1965, Vi married William Edward Fields and shortly after their marriage the couple moved to Oregon where she worked at the St. Joseph Hospital and later became the first woman ranger for the United States Forest Service at Anthony Lakes. Ed later preceded her in death on July 2, 1987.

Vi was a member of the Cove Seventh Day Adventist Church. She loved the mountains, fishing, hiking, her roses but most of all she loved her family and friends. She was a blessing to all and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her daughters and their spouses, Lois Magnuson of Scottville, Michigan, Bev and Don Riggs of Shelby, Michigan and Jan and Bob Hull of Union, Oregon; step-son, Kenneth Fields of Bend, Oregon; a sister Nerine Blount of Orlando, Florida; thirteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Her parents, spouses, Millard Buffum and William Fields; sons, Duane, Larry, Kenneth and Robert; son-in-law Nels; grandson John and granddaughter Tammy all preceded her in death.
