Velva Viola Oswald

May 2, 1912 — July 2, 2004

Velva Viola Oswald, 92, of La Grande, died Friday, July 2 after a long and happy life. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2802 N. First St., with Merle Burling officiating. Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Oswald was born May 2, 1912, to John Cantrel and Iola (Carder) Cantrel in Summerville. She attended the Dry Creek schoolhouse outside of Summerville, and graduated from La Grande High School in 1929 where she was an outstanding student. She started courting her husband to be, Donald Oswald, in 1928, and they wed on January 5, 1935, in Stevenson, Washington. She was an accomplished homemaker, avid reader, bible student, gardener and exceptional grandmother.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Carolyn Oswald, of La Grande, five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends. Her husband and two sisters died earlier.
