Velma Leota Hescock

Velma L. (Trump) Hescock, 94, of Wallowa County, died April 22 at Wallowa Valley Care Center. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bollman Funeral Home. Burial will be at Wallowa Cemetery.

She was born July 4, 1916, to John (Okey) Russell Trump and Cordelia (Vest) Trump in Wallowa. She grew up in Wallowa and graduated in 1935 as valedictorian of her class. After her school years, she picked hops with her sister and her sister's husband in Washington and also worked as a waitress.

On March 27, 1938, she married Glenn Ward Hescock. She was a homemaker and her Sunday family dinners were notable. Velma enjoyed knitting, crocheting, oil and tole painting and other crafts. She enjoyed huckleberry-picking, and going on picnics with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her brother, Gerald, and his wife, Cathryn Trump of Wallowa; son, Keith Hescock of La Grande; daughter, Glenda and her husband, Vernon Bennett of Enterprise; son, Dennis and his wife, Cathy Hescock of Kamiah, Idaho; and daughter, Judy Hafer of La Grande. She had 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn; brothers, Bill, Clarence and Elmer Trump; sister, Elsie Stark; grandson, Mitch Bennett; and great-granddaughter, Dalina DeVore.
