Tina Louise Cook

July 7, 1964 — November 5, 2010

Tina Louise Cook, 46, of Union, died Nov. 5 at her home. Her memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at Grande Ronde Community Church, 410 Fir St. in La Grande. A time of remembrance will run from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Loveland Funeral Chapel.

Tina was born July 7, 1964, to Gabriel Avalos and Yolanda Balbuena at Reno, Nev.

During her youth, she lived in California where she excelled in baseball, becoming a professional baseball player who was inducted into a hall of fame. She coached a college football team as well as high school players.

Tina enjoyed volleyball, fishing and crabbing. Family and friends say she was known for her unconditional love and care of everyone she met. Her nickname was TLC. She volunteered at Shelter from the Storm. Tina was fluent in Spanish and was a frequent translator for those in need of her services.

Survivors include her husband, Nelson Cook of Union; children, Christina Duncan of Portland, Wyatt Duncan of Keating, Willie Duncan of Richland, Zach Cook of Baker City, Amanda Thometz of Boise and Briana Huston of Baker City; and one grandchild.
