Thomas Warner Cook

September 4, 1918 — August 1, 2005

Thomas Warner Cook, age 86 of La Grande, died Monday, August 1, 2005 at a local care center. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 8, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Thomas Warner Cook was born on September 4, 1918, the son of Alfred and Bessie (Warner) Cook in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada. As a child Tom moved with his family to the Grande Ronde Valley where he attended school and played sacsaphone in the La Grande High School band. After graduating from high school Thomas enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a cryptographer in Jamaica during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge Thomas moved back to La Grande where he met and married Maxine Richardson on June 24, 1951. Maxine preceded him in death on January 29, 1994. Tom worked for a short time for Zimmerman's before becoming the manager of Cablevision in La Grande where he later retired after years of employment. He was a past member of the Presbyterian Church, the Elks Lodge and the American Legion. Tom enjoyed yard sales, working in his workshop in his basement, spending time in Reno, and will always be remember for his out spoken opinion.


Survivors include his very dear friend and guardian, Norm Paullus of La Grande and other close friends. His parents and his wife Maxine Cook all preceded him in death.
