Theodore "Ted" William Knight, 68, of Pilot Rock and formerly of Union County, died June 5 at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton.
Memorial services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Burns Mortuary in Pendleton with graveside services to follow at Island City Cemetery. Ted was born June 29, 1939, to Floyd and Martha Knight in Axtell, Neb. After moving from Nebraska to Colorado, the Knights settled down in the La Grande area, where Ted spent most of his school days.
Ted married Jeannie in June 1963. he spent his early career working on dairy farms. In 1965, Ted went to work for Boise Cascade in Elgin. Then in 1969, Ted and his family moved to Pilot Rock, where Ted went to work for Louisiana Pacific. He remained there until its closure. For the next 15 years, Ted worked for the Pendleton Woolen Mills. He remained at the mills until his retirement in 2001.
Ted enjoyed family time with his wife, there three sons, his grandchildren and his dog, Jack. Ted was an avid fan of western films and books. He especially enjoyed John Wayne films, creating quite a collection for himself over the years.
Ted is survived by his wife, Jeannie; three sons, Roger, Brian and Ricky, all of Pilot Rock; brothers, Floyd of Island City and Norman of Pendleton; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Beth Hill and Mayola Farrar.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
