Thelma Wolford

Thelma Doloros Wolford, age 80, died November 18, 2012 at her daughter's home in Pendleton. A celebration of life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the Elgin Christian Church. Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to the Oregon Cancer Society in care of Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.

Thelma was born on August 5, 1932, the daughter of Floyd and Lucille (Hargan) McMichael in Elkton, Oregon. She graduated from Oakland High School and on August 7, 1950 she married William Wolford in Yoncolla, Oregon. They came to Elgin in April of 1967 and she drove school bus for 20 years and also worked as waitress/cook/dishwasher for two restaurants in Elgin and then for her daughter at "Barbie's Place" in La Grande until she sold it. Thelma was an active member of the Elgin Christian Church and served as their secretary off and on for 40 years. She loved to fish and water ski, ride ATVs and served with her husband as camp hosts at Tamarack Camp Ground for 16 years. She was an avid hunter.


Survivors include her husband, Bill of Elgin; daughter, Barbara Jean Lene of Pendleton; son, Harold Lee Wolford of Union; siblings, Joann Brant of Stockton, California, James Bruce McMichael of Drain and Harry Douglas McMichael of Walla Walla; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by son, William "Bill" Wolford Jr. and brother, Henry Delbert McMichael.
