Ted R. Hancock, 74, of La Grande, died June 24 at his home. A graveside service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the Hermiston Cemetery. Arrangements are with Burns Mortuary of Hermiston.
Ted was born Nov. 30, 1934, in Denton, Texas, to David and Viola Hancock. He was the third child in the family. He came to Oregon in 1943 to live with his father who was working in the shipyards during the war.
When Ted turned 18 he joined the Ironworkers Local No. 29 in Portland. He completed a three-year apprenticeship training and received his Journeyman Ironworker card. Proud to be a union ironworker, Ted was a member of Local No. 29 for 55 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Sharon Hancock; son, Grant Hancock; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Dean Hancock in 1990, and siblings, David Jr., Barbara Ann, Joel D., Jerry N. and Kenneth D.
