Sugar Taneshia Ann Williams-Warner, 40, of La Grande, died Sept. 11 in a car accident. A memorial service was held Sept. 20 at Union County Senior Center. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements.
Sugar was born Dec. 19, 1968, to Frank Garrett and Gloria Williams-Smith in Louisiana. She married Michael N. Warner Feb. 19, 2009, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Sugar had a history in law enforcement in a variety of places in the U.S. including in La Grande. She owned a taxi company and a Cajun food catering business. Sugar loved to barbecue and did authentic Cajun cooking.
Sugar loved to tell stories of family and her past. She spoke often of her mother who was Cuban and her father who was from Trinidad. Her mother was a school teacher, and she prided herself in trying to be like her mom.
Sugar spoke four languages - French, Creole, English and Spanish. Those who knew her say Sugar always spoke her mind and loved people. They say Sugar loved and lived for family.
She was a Southern Baptist.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Warner; children, Justin, Brandy, Candy, Kayla, Fayla, Britney, Sky and Tania; siblings, Charles Williams, John Garrett, Danny Williams, Areshia Williams-Singleton, Lu Cinda Smith and Vannalois Smith; several grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews in Sugar's and Mike's families.
