Stella "Nadean" Stoop

Stella "Nadean" Stoop, age 89, of La Grande, died Thursday at the Grande Ronde Hospital. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Island City Cemetery. This service will also include the committal for her grandson, Woody Albers. Those who wish may make contributions to the Blue Mtn. Humane Association in care of Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.

Mrs. Stoop was born on July 17, 1919 in La Grande, the daughter of Burl and Vera Lois (Mires) Conley. She spent much of her school age years on her step-father's ranch outside of Baker City. She was married to James H. Stoop on January 13, 1972 in Sandy, Oregon. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Stoop worked for Bonneville Power in Portland, first as a telephone operator and later as an office supervisor until her retirement. They moved to La Grande over twenty years ago from the Portland area. She was involved with the Emblem Club and the Lions Club. She loved gardening and her grandchildren. She had strong bonds with her pets, especially dogs, Katie and Danny. She loved the Grand Ronde Valley.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Charles "Chuck" and Katherine Stoop of Cave Junction and Sue Albers and Greg Franklin of La Grande; grandchildren, Guy Albers of Portland and Bart Albers of La Grande; great granddaughter, Kiana McCarthy of Portland; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Woody Albers.
