Shirley Hoadley, age 71, of La Grande, died Sunday at the Grande Ronde Hospital. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande. Committal and interment will follow at the Cove Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp. Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to the charity of one's choice.
Mrs. Hoadley was born on March 4, 1938, the daughter of John and Jessie (Murchison) Woodell in La Grande. She attended schools in Union and La Grande. On September 17, 1955 she married Harry Hoadley at the First Christian Church in La Grande. She worked for Montgomery Wards and for a tavern in Union owned by her sister and brother-in-law before becoming a stay at home wife and mother. She loved her home and working with the flowers in her garden. She did all types of arts and crafts, including ceramics and painting. She bowled on a league for a few years and was the family events planner and always had lots of family around her home.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Hoadley; son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Patricia Hoadley and son, Monty Hoadley, all of La Grande; brother and his wife, Clifford and Myrna Woodell of La Grande; sister and her husband, Bette and Ronald Puckett of Cove; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by brother, Irvin "Bud" Woodell and sisters, Lee German, Cora Mae Denton and Cleo Hudson.
