Shirley Mae Brown, 83, of La Grande died Dec. 9. Graveside services were held this morning, Dec. 14, at the Cove Cemetery.
Mrs. Brown was born May 10, 1921 in Provo, Utah, the youngest child of Harriet and Edward Hunter. On July 4, 1944 she married Arthur Max Brown and worked as a telephone operator while he served in the Navy during World War II. After the war the couple had four children and the family lived in Colorado and Idaho. Later in life, Mrs. Brown lived in Portland and finally moved to the La Grande area in 1995.
She enjoyed visiting the beach, gardening, hand sewing and spending time with her family, all of whom loved her very much. Mrs. Brown attended Cove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Arthur Craig and Dottie Brown of Erie, Penn.; Kathie and Brent Bates of Vancouver, Wash.; Lyn and Tony Blake of Logan, Utah; Max and Mark MacDonald of La Grande, a brother, William Hunter of Las Vegas; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband Arthur in 1982
