April 28, 1945 — November 15, 2012

Sharon Kay Watne, age 67, of La Grande, died, November 15, 2012, just weeks after being diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande. Viewing will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp. Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org). Sharon was born on April 28, 1945, the daughter of Edward and Erma (Quillen) Taylor in Pueblo, Colorado. The family moved to Oregon when she was a child. On July 3, 1961 she married Howard Watne in Weiser, Idaho. After Howard's honorable discharge from the Army they lived in Spokane for a year and California for a year before settling in La Grande. Sharon was a day care provider for 15 years before going to work for the La Grande School District, first in the laundry department and then as a custodian for the middle school. She was a member of the Crossroads Community Church (formerly Pioneer Park Church of God). She enjoyed camping, making cakes for weddings and other occasions, traveling and spending time with family.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Pam and Tom Maliwauki of Pendleton, Seglinda and Joseph Martinez of La Grande and Quentin and Brandi Watne of Cottage Grove; grandchildren, Brandon, Shaelyn and Christian Maliwauki, Ashley, Jadon and Keira Martinez and Lincoln and Zephan Watne; step-grandchildren, Marissa, Jason and Jordon Martinez; great grandchild, Dez Maliwauki; sisters and their spouses, Phyllis and Mason Henderson of Montana, Eloise and Jack Booher of California, Shirley Cornwell of Washington State and Myrna and Larry Watson of Oregon; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by infant sister, Donna Taylor; son, Eric Watne and sister and brother-in-law, Lorene and Glenn Greenough and husband, Howard Watne.
