Shari Louise Cook Roe

July 16, 1947 — February 12, 2009

Shari Louise Cook Roe passed away on February 12, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many.

Shari was born in Dallas, Oregon on July 16, 1947 to Louis and Eva Mae LaMotte. She grew up as the youngest sister of three brothers, Lewis, Ron and Bruce. She graduated from Dallas High School in 1965 and then continued her education at Salem Business College.

Shari found the love of her life in Floyd Roe in 1985. They were married on July 11, 1992 in Dallas, Oregon. They took pleasure in each other's company. Shari loved traveling with her dear husband, Floyd. Over the years, they visited Hawaii, Alaska, the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone, the Southwest, Washington D.C. and many other places.

Shari treasured Floyd's children and always treated them with love and respect. She was very proud of their many accomplishments. ‘She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Shari was also an accomplished artist and had a special passion for counted cross stitch.

Shari contributed much to her community. She was a dedicated public servant who worked for the State of Oregon for over 33 years in various jobs. Early in her career, Shari worked for Vocational Rehabilitation. She spent the last 12 years working as a leader in Oregon's Refugee Resettlement Program. She enjoyed learning about new cultures, and especially enjoyed tasting new foods. After her retirement, Shari was honored with several awards for her service to the refugee community.

Shari is survived by her husband, Floyd Roe; her brother, Bruce LaMotte (Carol); her brother-in-law, Jerry Roe (Rhonda); sister-in-law, Genevieve Loveless; her aunt, Irma Bosvert; her stepchildren, Jim Roe (Lanette), Katie Moran (Mike), and Theron Roe (Marlene); her grandchildren, Teala (Brad), Preston (Lily), Blake, Colby, Mason, and Taylor; and great grandson, Jack. Many other relatives, friends and neighbors will also miss her tremendously. Shari was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Lewis and Ron, and a sister who died at birth, Jeanine.

A viewing will be held on February 20, 2009 from 4 pm to 8pm at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Home, 605 Commercial Street SE in Salem. Services will be held on February 21, 2009 at 2:00pm at Golden Funeral Home, immediately followed by a reception. Shari will be toasted with her favorite beverage, Coca Cola Classic. A private interment at Belcrest Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Association.
