Rulen Frank Collier

December 2, 1918 — March 24, 2005

Rulen Frank Collier, age 86 of Union, died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Union with Don Baxter conducting. Interment will follow at the Union Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley and on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. All are invited to bring a dish and attend a potluck which will be held at The Hut in Union following the services.

Rulen Frank Collier was born on December 2, 1918 the son of Frank and Ethel (Thompson) Collier in St. Anthony, Idaho. Rulen attended schools in Harper, Oregon and later graduated with the class of 1937 in Star, Idaho. After high school Rulen went to work for the Morrison Knutson Company over seas during World War II. Rulen was captured and was a Prisoner of War for 44 months. Upon his release he was recognized as a Veteran of Foreign War with the United States Navy and spent a short time in Guam before returning to the United States. In the year of 1949, Rulen married Ruth Fisher and together the couple raised two children. Ruth would later precede him in death. On January 1, 1976 Rulen was married to Dennis "Denny" Allred in Union. Rulen spent most of his life as an owner and operater of numerous restaurants including Stockman's and the Nugget in Halfway, Oregon, the Smoke Shop in Baker City, the Disco Bar in Mountain Home, Idaho, the Tropadara in La Grande and The Hut in Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, barbeques with his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his life time of hard work.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Jeff and Patty Collier of Union, Bethel and Bruce Moore of Chimacum, Washington, step-children and their spouses, Paul and Brenda Carman of Union, Sandy and Ron Droke of Union, Elvin and Carolyn Carman of Columbia Falls, Montana and Rodney Carman of La Grande; sixteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. His wife Denny Collier and two brothers, Bob and Bernie Collier and a sister Lola Neilson all preceded him in death.
