Ruby N. Kuhn

December 30, 1911 — January 13, 2005

Ruby N. Kuhn, 93, of La Grande died January 13 at a local care center. Viewing will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 4th St., and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. before the funeral, which will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the LDS Stake Center. Burial will follow at the Elgin Cemetery.

Mrs. Kuhn was born Dec. 30, 1911 to Leonard R. and Elsie Aldred Parsons in Elgin. She graduated from Elgin High School and Eastern Oregon Normal School, and in 1964 earned a bachelor's degree at Eastern Oregon College. On June 1, 1944, she married Howard E. Kuhn in Elgin. The marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1957.

She began teaching in Elgin at the age of 20 and ended her 37 year career at Greenwood Elementary in 1974

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the relief society, primary and young women's organizations. She also was a member of the PTA. She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, serving others and being with her families.

Her and her late husband planted such large gardens that they had to find people to give away the produce.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Janelle and Ronald Marx; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren, all of La Grande; sisters, June Gray of North Powder and Alta Hunt of Elgin; brothers, Dick Parsons and Dell Parsons, both of Elgin; a niece, Phyllis Bechtel, who was raised as a sister, and other relatives. Her husband and sisters, Chloe Phippen and LaRue Parsons, all died earlier.

Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Family History Center in care of Loveland Chapel.
