Roy Ray Smith

February 10, 1922 — November 26, 2002

Roy Ray Smith, age 80, of La Grande, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise, Idaho.


At his request there will be no public services. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.


Mr. Smith was born on February 10, 1922, the son of Charles and Bertha (Wood) Smith in Nighthawk, Washington. From 1940 until 1945 he served with the United States Army during World War II. On March 30, 1946 he married Nora Wergin in Omak, Washington. They moved to La Grande on December 15, 1949 and he worked for the Mt. Emily Lumber Company which later became Boise Cascade for 28 years.


He enjoyed working with the flowers in his garden and making wooden animals. He loved to hunt and fish and he worshiped his grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Survivors include his wife, Nora Smith of La Grande; sons and their wives, Chester and Cindy Smith of La Grande and Richard and Kathy Smith of Baker City; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. A daughter preceded her in death in 1950.
