Roy Pierce

February 6, 1932 — March 7, 2007

Roy Pierce passed away on March 7, 2007, at Hospice Care Center, in Longview, Washington.

He was born February 6, 1932, in North Powder, Oregon, to Royal and Dorothy Pierce. He grew up in La Grande, Oregon and graduated from La Grande High School in 1950. He joined the Navy after graduation and served four years during the Korean conflict. In 1955, he married Jun Myer, also of La Grande. In 1960 they moved to Longview, where they both attended Bernard's Beauty School. He became known as "Mr. Roy" when thy purchased and operated the Vogue Beauty Salon in 1962. When they retired in 1980, they sold the salon and began a career in real estate.

Roy loved buying and remodeling houses and apartments. He always had a positive outlook on every project he undertook and had a way of working it out. That's the way he was about life. Every day was a challenge to him. He wasn't afraid to try anything. He lived a full life and accomplished everything he wanted to do.

In the last few years of his life, he was an avid fisherman; often fishing with friends, and usually taking along his beloved Pug, Bugsy.

Roy was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. A real family man, he loved helping out his children on their house projects and other concerns. His dry humor was a great part of his communications with people, and he often used it to add levity to many situations.

After 51 years of marriage, Roy is survived by his wife June, daughter Sabrina Meyers of Kelso, and son Steve Pierce, also of Kelso; grandson Russ McClain, Kalama, and two great-grandsons, Brecken and Drayden McClain. Roy has two surviving sisters, Lois Green of Hermiston, Oregon, and Betty Workman of Tillamook, Oregon.

A memorial service will be held at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park on Saturday, March 10, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions can be may be made to Community Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, Washington 98632.
