Roy James Cork

June 14, 1916 — November 11, 2008

Roy James Cork was born in Hanska, Minnesota, June 14, 1916 died at the age of 92 in Portland, Oregon November 11, 2008.

Roy moved to Edgemont, South Dakota when he was a small boy and went through grade school and high school there. After graduation he moved to Lusk, Wyoming where he worked with his brother Mike in a bakery.

He married Gayle Hargraves in 1937 and they moved to Hood River, Oregon to be near his parents, Emma and L.L. Cork. In 1938 their only child, daughter Marlene Cork Howard was born.

In 1938 they moved back to Lusk Wyoming where they lived until Roy was drafted in the army during World War II. After the war he and his wife and daughter moved to La Grande, Oregon where he lived until 2002.

Roy Cork worked for Eddy's Bakery as a manager and truck driver deliveryman from 1942 until his retirement in 1968.

He joined La Grande 1st Christian Church in 1953 where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon.

He was a 64-year member of The Grand Lodge of A.F. & A.M., La Grande Lodge, #41 and a Past Patron of Hope Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

In 2002 he moved to the Reedwood Convalescent Home in Portland, Oregon where he lived at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Gayle Cork, four sisters and one brother.

He is survived by his daughter, Marlene Cork Howard, grandson, Richard Howard, granddaughters Marilee Bunker and Denise Howard, Great grandchildren, Carissa Thomas, Paul Thomas, Melissa Lambert, Stephen Howard, McKenzie Howard, Jaimon and Julien Saria, and three great-great grandchildren, Kobi, & Sophia
Lambert and Jamison Thomas.
His memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on November 19, 2008 at the Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th St., La Grande, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to 1st Christian Church or to the building fund to make Colonyhouse in Rockaway Beach, Oregon wheelchair accessible.
