Roy Lincoln Allen

February 12, 1931 — October 14, 2010

Roy Lincoln Allen, 79, formerly of La Grande, died Oct. 14 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Wash.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Umatilla Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial with military honors will follow at Grandview Cemetery in La Grande at 2 p.m. Those who knew him may sign the condolence book at burnsmortuaryhermiston.com.

He was born Feb. 12, 1931, to Henry Jasper and Ethelyn Thelma (Nobles) Allen in La Grande. Roy was raised in La Grande and served honorably in the U.S. Army during Korea. He married Doris Minnie Green on June 17, 1951, in La Grande. Their marriage was sealed in the Portland LDS Temple.

They moved to Hermiston in 1963 and to Umatilla in 1972 where they have lived since. Roy worked as a truck driver for Pendleton Grain Growers for 26 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Hermiston VFW Post No. 4750.

Roy was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed camping, fishing, family picnics and drives in the mountains. He loved taking photos, never going anywhere without a camera to capture great moments with his children and great-grandchildren. Everyone who knew Roy knew he loved to cook and to discuss recipes. He would always be in the kitchen during any big holiday meal, taking charge of the preparations.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris of Umatilla; two sons, Robert Allen and Wayne Allen, both of Umatilla; daughter, Vicky Walchli of Umatilla; two sisters, Thelma Rhoton of La Grande and Helen Stein of San Jose, Calif.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin, Henry and Sidney Allen; and sisters, Marion Nelson, Irene Caldwell and Marie Michaels.
