Rosetta Eckstein

Rosetta Eckstein, 76, of Elgin, died Oct. 22 at the Evergreen Rehabilitation and Retirement Center in Milton-Freewater. A graveside service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Elgin Cemetery with Pastor Steve Gilmore officiating.

Mrs. Eckstein was born July 20, 1930 in La Grande to Ernest and Lillian Knight. She moved with her family to Wallowa, where she grew up and attended school.

After her schooling she moved to California for a time where she worked as a waitress and bartender.

She returned to Wallowa to raise her family, where she also provided in-home caregiving.

in 1979 she married Leland "Sonny" Eckstein in Nevada. She continued working until 1996 when ill health forced her to retire.

She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, mushroom hunting, fishing and collecting glasses and cups. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Nadine Onstot of milton-Freewater, Christine Wold of Albany and Carolyn Wold of Albany and Carolyn Anderson of Wallowa; a son, Dennis M. Callopy of Wisconsin; stepsons, Brad and Richard Eckstein, both of La Grande; stepdaughters, Shirley Hensley of La Grande and Shannon Toy of Elgin; a brother, Raymond Knight of The Dalles; 16 grand-children, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
