Ronald Augustus Moore died peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 and has left us for a journey home to his Eternal Father. Ron was known as a man for all seasons. A quiet man, reserved. Not one to join in community functions or clubs unless they were clubs he used on the golf course.
Mr. Moore was born in Los Angeles, California to Arby Raymond and Mildred Marie (Weston) Moore on February 7, 1933. Ron grew up in the southern California area and then moved to Hayward, California, where he graduated from high school. He enlisted in the United States Navy at age 18. He chose the submarine service and was trained in New London, Connecticut. He was on the USS Scabbard Fish and the Sub Tender, USS Nereus as an electricians mate. He married Rita Mae Morris on November 5, 1955 in Long Beach, California. Ron had a natural gift for doing precision engineering. He was employed for Container Corp of America as a service engineer in the folding carton division. At another time, he was self employed as a machinist in La Habra, California.
After leaving California in 1973, Ron and his family moved to La Grande, Oregon and he went into partnership with Stoffel Brothers Drilling. After a few months they relocated to Cove, Oregon where he and his wife lived for twelve years. After retiring from well drilling, they again moved to California where he again worked in the mechanical packaging field. While in California, Ron and his wife lived in Morgan Hill, Pleasanton and Hollister. He retired in 1995 and returned to Cove. His family was the joy of his life.
Survivors include his brother, Arby Moore and sister, Shirley Skinner, both of California; his wife, Rita, of 52 years; children, Glenn and Joanne Moore of Payette, Idaho, Rhonda and Ken Shelton of La Grande, Dana Moore of La Grande, Karen and John Steele of Troutdale, Sarah and Taz Roberts of Ridgefield, Washington and Jonathan and Stephanie Moore of Colorado Springs, Colorado; twenty one grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. This family is his legacy and honorable posterity. His father, mother and sister, Eileen, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will take place on October 6th at the Island City LDS Church on McAllister at 11:00 a.m. An interment at Cove Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to be made to: Hospice, in care of Grande Ronde Hospital, 900 Sunset Drive. Also correspondence from those who had known him either through his well drilling business or personal experiences would be appreciated. Send letters and cards to: Rhonda Shelton at 410 "G" Avenue, La Grande.
