Rodney "Rod" Allen Flintoff, age 63, died Thursday July 17, 2003, in peace at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Larry & Nancy Flintoff of Scappoose, Oregon.
A Graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 22, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at the Elgin Cemetery with Sally Wiens officiating. The service will be followed by a Celebration of Life with a potluck dinner at 2:00 P.M. at the Elgin Stampede Hall.
Rod was born on August 26, 1939 at Sand Lake, Michigan, the son of Albert and Dorothy (Winters) Flintoff. On August 13, 1995 he was married to the former Connie Marie Freitas at Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
He was a maintenance supervisor for Boise Cascade retiring in January 2000. In January of 2002, he purchased and operated The Brunswick Restaurant and Bar in Elgin.
Rod was a former member of Local 2780 and the former Mayor of the City of Elgin. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and operating his restaurant and bar. He also enjoyed building garages and doing electrical work.
Survivors include his wife Connie of Elgin; father, Albert Flintoff, Oregon City, OR; sons, Marvin Merritt of Arkansas City, Kansas, Rick Flintoff, Aurora, Colorado, Jim Flintoff, La Grande,; daughters, Tammy Hamilton, La Grande, OR, Treasa McCauley, Baker City, OR, Toni Hamilton, La Grande OR; step-children, Heather Barnes, Salem, OR, Jericho Casto, Elgin, OR; brothers, Larry Flintoff, Scappoose OR, Steven Flintoff, Oregon City, OR, Carl Flintoff, Vancouver, WA; sisters, Nancy Packard, Oregon City, OR, Diane Schriever, Estacada, OR; 15 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Flintoff in March of 2000 and by a granddaughter, Keri Short in February of 1992.
