Robert "Howard" Wilson, age 80, of La Grande, died Friday, September 12, 2003 at the Grande Ronde Hospital.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. the Grandview Cemetery with Warren Curry and Pastor Rob Collins of the Calvary Chapel officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Mr. Wilson was born on January 31, 1923, the son of Paul and Ava (Kernan) Wilson in Joseph, Oregon. When he entered high school the family moved to La Grande and in 1942 he graduated from La Grande High School. During World War II he served with the United States Navy. On December 29, 1946 he married Mary Lou Dickens in John Day. He worked as a postal clerk for the La Grande Post Office for 30 years, retiring in 1978. Mr. Wilson was a member of the Mavericks Horse Club and was involved with 4-H groups. He enjoyed farming and fishing and had a passion for square-dancing.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou of La Grande, children, Ron and Debbie Wilson of Arlington, Oregon, Nancy and Gerry Arnson of Moses Lake, Washington and Steve and Danelle Wilson of La Grande; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, William Gerald and Lee Wilson of Portland; and other relatives and friends.
Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Mr. Wilson to the Blue Mtn. 4-H Center or the charity of one's choice in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon 97850.
