Robert D. Wilhelm, age 64, of Elgin died November 9, 2003 while hunting near Catherine Creek of natural causes. Viewing will be held from 3 to 6 pm Wednesday from 3-6 pm at Loveland Funeral Chapel. A funeral will begin at 3 pm Thursday at the Elgin Christian Church, 1335 Division. Burial will follow at the Elgin Cemetery.

Mr. Wilhelm was born September 22, 1939 to Clarence H. and Bernice P. Marsden Wilhelm in La Grande. He graduated from La Grande High School and married Elma Jean Hicks on December 21, 1958, in Elgin. He served in the National Guard and was a contractor and rancher. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising cattle, cutting wood, square-dancing and calling dances. He had been a member of the Lutheran Church and was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Elgin Stampeders.

Survivors include his wife of Elgin; children and their spouses, Hoby and Cindy Wilhelm, Dianne and Phil Greif and Clay and Sheri Wilhelm, all of Elgin; nine grandchildren; two brothers and thier wives, Ray & Carol Wilhelm of Elgin and Roy & Evelyn Wilhelm of La Grande; sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Ferris of Elgin and Shirley and Terry Flatebo of Redmond.
