Robert Allen Thorn

Robert Allen Thorn, age 86, of La Grande, died Monday, September 6, 2004 at a local care facility. A celebration of life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Private interment will be in the Veteran's Circle at Grandview Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Thorn was born on June 18, 1918, the son of Clarence and Cora (Nine) Thorn in Grafton, West Virginia. He attended school in West Virginia and worked as a mine stripper. During World War II he served with the United States Army.

On May 9, 1936 he married Ethel Leona Curry. After their divorce he moved to La Grande to be near family and he worked for Del Monte until his retirement. His favorite hobby was his Model A car and he also enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include his daughter, Shirley Junker of La Grande; Eight grandchildren, including Don Junker of La Grande; numerous great grandchildren; half-sister, Anna Lee Spring of Baltimore, Maryland; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Earl Junker, sons, Alva and Robert Jr. and nine brothers and sisters.
