Robert Mulhall

Robert Mulhall, 86, of La Grande, Oregon and formerly of Seattle died March 5, 2007. At his request there will be no public services. To sign the guest book or leave a condolence for the family visit: www.danielschapel.com.

Mr. Mulhall was born June 3, 1920, the son of Leo and Jenny (Price) Smith in Yakima, Washington. He lived in Yakima, Portland and Seattle. During World War II he served with the United States Army. After his honorable discharge he worked as a manufacturing engineer for Boeing for 25 years. In the 1970's he moved to La Grande and worked as a consultant for the forest service for ten years before retiring.

Mr. Mulhall was an avid mountain climber. He was very active in the Seattle Mountaineers Club, a mountain climbing association. He was a member of the first party that climbed Mt. Adams in Washington State. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Seattle and La Grande and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a silver and gold prospector who surveyed various claims in the Blue and Wallowa Mountains and settled on three or four to work from. Writing was another hobby of his and he wrote and published various articles on mountain climbing and politics. Several years ago he began work on a novel on Chief Joseph that has not yet been published. He enjoyed taking his beloved dog with him on long rides in the mountains. He was a kindhearted man who helped take care of his friends until he was too ill to look after them.

Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Laurie and Pat Adams of Seatac, Washington; son, Robert Patrick Mulhall of Seattle, Washington; five nieces and nephews; his faithful companion, his dog Roger and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Hamilton and Marion Crimin.
